In the year 1971, the Battalion was declared an India Reserve Battalion and was centrally sponsored by the Government of India. Consequently, it was deployed to different regions, including Gujarat, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh.
In October 1971, the Battalion was sent to Nagaland for the Naga Operation under the supervision of the then-Commandant, Mr. G.S. Gill, and its headquarters was established at Maram, Nagaland. The Battalion remained operational in Nagaland until 1973. During this period, under the supervision of the Indian Army, the Battalion played a pivotal role in defeating the Naga rebels.
In 1974, the Battalion was stationed in the state of Assam to tackle the issues of foreign invasion and extremism, with Dispur serving as the Battalion headquarters. Despite facing numerous hardships during this period, the officers and personnel of the Battalion displayed exemplary character in the fulfillment of their duties.
Subsequently, the Battalion was deployed to Tripura in June 1988, where it remained until October 1994. During this tenure, the Battalion undertook effective actions against rebels and terrorists in the state, earning high appreciation from the Tripura Government.
Notably, when the Tripura Armed Police rebelled in 1991, the Battalion successfully assumed responsibility for protecting the Police Armoury and the state’s VIPs. After performing satisfactorily in the sensitive areas of Tripura, the Battalion was stationed in the national capital, Delhi, with its headquarters established at Kingsway Camp. During this period, the companies of the Battalion satisfactorily performed duties related to VIP security and the maintenance of law and order.
In May 1996, the A, B, C, and D companies of the Battalion were deployed for Naxal Operations in the Bastar region under the orders of the Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh. The remaining two companies and the Battalion headquarters remained stationed in Delhi.
Following this, in October 1996, the Battalion was recalled to its home state of Madhya Pradesh, and its temporary headquarters was set up in Mohani Colony, Shivpuri. In 1997, the temporary headquarters of the Battalion was shifted to Kothi No. 32, Shivpuri.
Meanwhile, a formal request for land was made to the Government of Madhya Pradesh. As a result, 25 hectares of land, located about 8 kilometers from Shivpuri on the Agra-Bombay Highway in Chandrapura Village (under Survey Nos. 472/2 and 457/1), was officially allotted for the establishment of the permanent headquarters of the Battalion.
